What to expect in a therapy session
We'll start by having an informal chat, you'll be asked what you want and what is the reason you want it - so an understanding can be gained of where your motivation to change comes from. You may also be asked about the situation, people, environment and feelings that may be involved in the change that you want to make.
All sessions are carried out with complete confidentiality, remember, this is your time. Trust, honesty and openness from the start make therapy more effective.
You can make yourself comfortable and allow yourself to be guided into a relaxed daydream like state.
There are many techniques that may be used, the ones chosen will be tailored to your individual needs from the information you have given earlier.
These may involve recalling memories, describing your thoughts and feelings, imagining the future, the way you want it to be. This is a pleasant relaxing experience.

Sometimes it may be beneficial to practice relaxation at home, or to keep a log or diary between sessions. You will be advised if this will assist with your specific goal/s.
Sessions generally take place weekly, however this depends on the individual. Simple problems such as habits or phobias may only require a few sessions, whereas more complex problems/goals may take several or more meetings. Whatever your goal is, the aim is to obtain results in the least number of sessions and in at a pace and level that is comfortable for you.
